The Danakil Depression is one of the most extraordinary places on Earth- a land of active volcanoes, salt plains, colorful mineral formations, and ancient Afar culture. Located in northeastern Ethiopia, this remote region offers a once-in-a-lifetime adventure featuring the active Erta Ale Volcano, the vast salt lakes of the Afar Triangle, the dramatic Dallol hydrothermal landscape, and traditional salt caravan routes.

Day 01 :

Addis Ababa – Semera – Dallol – Hamedela

Take an early morning flight from Addis Ababa to Semera, the capital of the Afar Region. Upon arrival, drive to Dallol, one of the hottest and lowest places on Earth. Explore its extraordinary landscapes, including colorful hydrothermal formations, sulfur springs, salt flats, geysers, and the famous camel caravans that transport blocks of salt across the desert.

In the late afternoon, enjoy a spectacular sunset over the salt lake before continuing to Hamedela, where you will spend the night camping under the stars.

Day 02 :

Dallol – Erta Ale Volcano

After breakfast, drive to Erta Ale, one of the world's most active volcanoes, renowned for its remarkable lava lake. Upon arrival at the base of the volcano, take a short rest and enjoy dinner before beginning the evening trek to the summit or Dinner could be after the trek.

Reach the crater and spend the night camping near the volcano, where you can witness the unforgettable glow and movement of molten lava.

Day 03 :

Erta Ale – Lake Afdera – Semera – Addis Ababa

Wake up early to watch the sunrise over Erta Ale, and trekking back down to the base for breakfast. Drive to Lake Afdera, a salt-mining town on the shores of the lake. Visit the traditional salt mines, observe the Afar people's centuries-old salt extraction methods, and, if time permits, enjoy a refreshing swim in the lake.

In the afternoon, return to Semera Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa, bringing your unforgettable Danakil Depression adventure to an end.
